You had previously set up your Trezor hardware wallet, and now you want to use it again. However, Trezor requires you to have the latest firmware installed on your device before accessing your cryptocurrency wallet.

This article will show you (with guided illustrations) the step-by-step process of updating your Trezor wallet with the latest firmware updates.

Note that as a security precaution, always ensure the safety of your internet connection and the computer device you use to connect to your Trezor hardware crypto wallet.

How to install & update your Trezor firmware to the latest version

This involves eight (8) easy steps on how to do this.

Step 1. Connect your Trezor wallet to your computer

Login to your Trezor wallet by entering your security PIN.

Using Trezor’s cable, connect the hardware wallet to your computer via a standard USB port connection.

Always use your computer to connect your hardware wallet, and not use other people or public computers.

Step 2. Go to Trezor Suite

Press <Update Now> to continue.

Step 4. Ensure You Still Have Your Seed Phrase

Make sure you still have your 12-word seed phrase (also called recovery seed).

The seed phrase is automatically generated by Trezor and shown to you when you first set up your Trezor hardware wallet. You are likely to write down these recovery seeds on the Trezor-provided booklet, which is included in the box.

Select <Yes, I do> and click <Continue> to move on to begin the firmware upgrading process.

Step 5. Re-connect your Trezor in bootloader mode

On your Trezor screen, follow the on-screen instructions that involve;

  • Disconnecting and re-connecting your Trezor (unplug and plug back the USB port to the computer)
  • When plugging back, quickly swipe the screen of your Trezor wallet to bring up the firmware interface.

Step 6. Connect to host

You know your firmware has been successfully installed when you see this image (above) on your Trezor Suite interface.
